Chen's research interests include biological mass spectrometry, analytical nanotechnology, and nanobiotechnology.[1][2][3]

Achievements

Chen is the inventor of

Contactless Atmospheric Pressure Ionization (Contactless API),[5] and one of the inventors of the surface-assisted laser desorption/ionization (SALDI)[6]
techniques for mass spectrometric analysis of chemical molecules.
