The Dagblad van het Noorden is a merger of the

Drentse Courant
(founded by merger in 1991).

Its first edition was published on 2 April 2002. Jan Bonjer, who had been the editor-in-chief of the Drentse Courant, was the first editor-in-chief from 2002 to 2003.[3] Pieter Sijpersma was editor-in-chief from 2004 till 2017, when he was succeeded by Erik Wijnholds.[4][5]
