He left the army in 1945 with the rank of captain and returned to work as a parliamentary clerk.

Lidderdale was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath in the 1963 Birthday Honours while a Clerk Assistant.[2] Between 1974 and 1976 he served as Clerk of the House of Commons, and he was appointed a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in the 1975 New Year Honours.[3]
