History

Desmond John Edward Beale-Browne was born on 4 July 1870. He was educated at

9th (Queen's Royal) Lancers.[1] In 1893 he was promoted to lieutenant and seconded to the Army Service Corps.[2] Returning to the lancers he became their Adjutant in March 1895,[3] until July 1898 when he relinquished the post.[4]

In March 1901 he was promoted to

Aide de Camp.[5][6] During his service in the Second Boer War, he was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal with four clasps, Cape Colony, Rhodesia, Orange Free State and Transvaal. Also the King's South Africa Medal with both clasps.[7]

After the war, in April 1906, he was promoted to

brigadier-general and commander of the 2nd Cavalry Brigade.[12]

Post war in September 1919, he relinquished his temporary rank of brigadier-general.[13] For his war service he was awarded the Order of the Crown by Belgium, in August 1921.[14] In March 1920, on completion of his term in command, he was placed on the half pay list,[15] and then in March 1922, retires with the honorary rank of brigadier-general.[16]

In his later life in March 1936 he was appointed the Regimental Colonel of the 9th Lancers,

Justice of the Peace.[1]
Desmond Beale-Browne died in 1953.[19]
