Doonside is a small beachside resort suburb in Kingsburgh, some 30 km south-west of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on the South Coast.

At first the siding was called Middleton, after its builder, but to avoid confusion with

Middleton in the Cape the name was changed in 1910 to Doonside, after a house called Lorna Doone which overlooked the siding.[2]

Geography

Doonside along with its adjoining suburb of Doonheights in the interior form the northern part of Kingsburgh.

Transport

Doonside lies alongside the

N2 freeway to the west (separates it from Doonheights) and has direct access to the N2 via the Seadoone Road interchange. Doonside is mainly traversed by Kingsway (renamed Andrew Zondo Road), designated as the R102, which runs parallel to the coast connecting to the nearby coastal settlements of Amanzimtoti, Warner Beach and Winklespruit

Doonside and its railway station lie on the railway line between

Kelso known as the South Coast Line which is mainly operated by the commuter railway service of Metrorail
