The Institute for Future Strategy(IFS) is a Think Tank established by Seoul National University in 2021 to carry out long-term research projects and explore visions for national development. Since 2016, Seoul National University has been hosting forums for public discussion on national policies through the National Policy Forum and the National Strategy Committee. Through this, it became clear that a permanent policy research institute was necessary, and at the end of 2021, Seoul National University established the Institute for Future Strategy as a research facility directly under its headquarters. The Institute for Future Strategy contributes to the establishment of national policies and solves major problems facing Korea and the rest of the world through interdisciplinary research. The core goal of the Institute for Future Strategy is to share the academic achievements of various academic units with society.

To this end, the Institute for Future Strategy has developed a multidisciplinary · convergence · creative research methodology, and the council is composed of researchers in collaborative fields and external researchers. Presentations, lectures, and discussions are regularly held in each of the seven clusters(Democracy, Future of Science and Technology, Pandemic, Economic Security, Population, Global Korea, Carbon Neutrality), and reports are published every 2~3 years. The Institute for Future Strategy appointed Ban Ki-Moon (the 8th UN Secretary-General) as honorary director, Professor Kim Byung-Yeon (Faculty of Economics) as its first director, and Professor Kim Jun-Ki (Graduate School of Public Administration) as its director since November 2023.
