Corey Leigh Rutgers (born 28 May 1989 in Footscray, Victoria) is a former WA country XI and grade cricketer who played in Western Australia and currently coaches the Cricket España Men’s national side, whilst also being a presenter for the (ECN) European Cricket Network.

National coaching

Rutgers who is current coach of the Spanish national cricket team, began his national coaching representation from 2017 to 2018. Previously working alongside Ryan Campbell for the KNCB Netherlands men’s team as an assistant & analyst. During this period Netherlands won World Cricket League 2 and promotion to the 50-Over Super League.

In August 2019 to July 2021, Rutgers was appointed head coach of the Belgium national cricket team. [1]During this period the Belgium national side recorded an 8-1 winning record, rising in the ICC T20 rankings from 63rd to 39th position.

In October 2021, Rutgers signed with the Espana National Cricket federation as new national head coach.[2] Currently the national Spanish team are ranked 34th in the ICC T20 rankings with a record of 24 Wins 8 Losses[3].

Franchise coaching

In November 2018, Rutgers was hired for his first franchise competition the inaugural Dubai T10 as fielding coach for Pakhtoon franchise. They would later go on to lose the final to Northern Warriors in Sharjah.

Rutgers was hired by PSL side Islamabad United’s Head Coach Dean Jones and General Manager Rehan Ulhaq for the 4th edition PSL4 in 2019, as fielding coach. Islamabad united were knocked out in 3rd place.

Rutgers was re-hired for Islamabad United franchise in the 2020 PSL5 under new head coach Misbah–Ul–Haq. However, the event was hindered by the beginning of the corona pandemic.

On 14 December 2019, Rutgers received his first head coach role for a franchise. He was named head coach of Falcon Hunters T10 franchise in the inaugural Qatar T10 league. Falcon Hunters went on to lift the inaugural championship. [4]

Presenter

Corey Rutgers is currently a presenter and commentator for the (ECN) European Cricket Network since 2020. The ECN YouTube Channel alone, boasts 387k subscribers (as at 2nd April 2024). Rutgers also commentated on the Netherlands vs Pakistan Super League ODI series in August 2022, hosted at Hazelaarweg, Rotterdam, on behalf of Viaplay and Fancode..
