- Comment: This could be cleaned up a little bit (the first sentence doesn't tell you why she's notable, for instance), but the sourcing's just not there at the moment, most of it is database records or specific swimming magazines which don't appear sufficiently secondary to me. Jayne Owen Bruner lives in Reston, Virginia, United States and is a member of the DC Masters team.[2]
At the age of 21, she joined the Riviera Club team in Indianapolis, and took part in the national championships but only for a few years: when the team disbanded, she gave up the sport. She only took up swimming again at the age of 39, encouraged by her husband Bob in 1973.[3][4] Coached over time by Jan Smith, Bob Clemmer, Mark Davin and Steve Ercolano, she spent 24 years on the Team Pittsburgh Aquatics team, then joined the Curl-Burke Swim Team, competing with the DC Masters Team.[4]
She competed in her first national competitions in 1974, then participated and won numerous world championships organised by
USMS Athletes considers Bruner to be one of the most successful female masters swimmers in the world for over 16 years.[3][2]
