Joseph John Racano is an author whose works include poetry, science fiction, non-fiction, and politics. He is an environmental activist of some repute, as well as a rock musician and rapper. Born in Amityville Long Island November 22, 1955, he served in the US Navy during the Vietnam era aboard the USS Hector (AR-7) and sailed for three tours of the western pacific. As a musician, he has opened for big names like Bonnie Raitt, Graham Nash, Walter Trout and Coco Montoya, often rubbing shoulders playing concerts promoting conservation. As an artist, his works of pen and ink are spread worldwide and his artworks adorn several of his own music albums. As an environmental activist, he played an outsized role in some of the biggest conservation victories achieved on the west coast of California, including a successful stand against a challenge to the Coastal Act when developer Robert Mayer Corp. and the California Coastal Commission attempted the development of a coastal salt marsh in Huntington Beach at Little Shell Wetland. He was one of three leaders (along with Dr. Jon Vandersloot of Newport Beach and Doug Korthof of Seal Beach) who led a bruising, 14 month movement that stopped the Orange County Sanitation District, keeping them from applying for an extension of their 301 (h) waiver being used to dump 240 million gallons a day of poorly treated sewage into the ocean off Fountain Valley. The final vote took place July 17th, 2002. As a political activist, Joseph John Racano was elected as a California Democratic Party State Central Committee Delegate, and on March 17, 2003 authored the Heritage Tree Resolution, which was accepted by the delegation at the State Convention in Sacramento, making it the official party platform of the Democratic Party to oppose the cutting of any trees older than the state. In 2015, he led another successful movement along with Greenpeace and Sea Shepherd Conservation Society that stopped Pacific Gas & Electric from seismic testing at Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. At this writing, he has recorded 17 record albums and owns Lupinesong Recording Studio in Los Osos California.
