Palos, Alabama

An explosion at the Palos Coal Mine in Jefferson County, Alabama killed 81 people on 1910.[1] The mine was owned by the Palos Coal and Coke Company.

The Pittston Gazette in Pennsylvania reported the names of some of the white miners trapped in the mine including teenagers.[2]

Afterdamp was a problem for rescuers.
