SLOMO.TV, Inc.

Overview

Since 2007[1], SLOMO.TV has been producing video server-based solutions for multi-channel 4K/3G/HD slow motion instant replays, recording for NLE, video refereeing and VAR. SLOMO.TV systems can be installed in studios and OB vans and are suitable for covering TV shows, live events, sports and eSports competitions of all levels.

SLOMO.TV systems are designed with a scalable architecture and compatibility with all major non-linear editing systems, allowing them to be implemented in existing TV production and sports facilities.

SLOMO.TV produces a range of multi-channel professional video production servers in various formats – from Ripley Plus[2], a video production server built into a standard-size replay console, to the 4U Dominator AT/12G, designed for large-scale TV production and eSports.

videoReferee®[3] systems for instant review of controversial moments have been installed in a number of stadiums and arenas around the world and are used in football, hockey, basketball, water polo, handball, wrestling, canoe slalom and other sports.

History

SLOMO.TV's videoReferee® was introduced[4] at the 2007 Ice Hockey World Championship in Moscow.

Qualifications

FIFA Quality Programme

The videoReferee® series is certified[5] to the FIFA Basic standard, according to the FIFA Quality Programme for VAR Technology[6].

Major projects

SLOMO.TV produces complete solutions with a range of options for video refereeing in various sports.

The videoReferee® range is used by:

The Georgian Football Federation implemented videoReferee®-based VAR

The Georgian Football Federation (GFF) also uses slomo.tv VAR technology, namely a VAR Van based on a videoReferee® server.

In March 2022, a training session[14] for future video match officials was held in Tbilisi with slomo.tv technicians and a FIFA instructor. The practice was carried out on the videoReferee® system and slomo.tv Academy[15] training simulator.

The Federation has received FIFA’s approval for the use of the VAR in official matches.

In 2023, the GFF expanded its VAR Van fleet by two more vehicles, equipping them with full VAR sets produced by slomo.tv.

The Tajikistan Football Federation uses slomo.tv VAR technology

The Tajikistan Football Federation has also selected[7][16] videoReferee® VAR technology as the option that met all their requirements.

The training for video match officials (VMOs) was carried out in Dushanbe using the Academy and videoReferee®-8F, on the basis of which the VAR Van was subsequently equipped.

The VAR implementation project was completed in the fall of 2023 and the technology is now officially used in Tajikistan Higher League matches.

The Kazakhstan Football Federation uses slomo.tv VAR systems

The successful testing of the videoReferee® system in July 2021 led to FIFA's approval[17] of the use of slomo.tv VAR technology in regular football competitions in Kazakhstan.

In total, the Kazakhstan Football Federation (KFF) uses 14 VAR complexes: videoReferee®-8F[18] servers and mini-II-vR-Cam[19] cameras.

VAR solutions for basketball

videoReferee®-B is a specialized Instant Replay System (IRS) mobile solution series for basketball, meeting all FIBA requirements. Thanks to the integration of the match-controller into this system, the referee can access the game information at any time, resolving the ‘24 seconds’ issue.

VAR solutions for wrestling

United World Wrestling (UWW) has selected[10] slomo.tv as its video refereeing technology partner for all matches.

With videoReferee® independent workstations, multiple referees can work simultaneously when separate wrestling bouts are taking place at the same time.

VAR solutions for water polo

videoReferee® solution for water polo includes a mobile 1U/2U videoReferee® server, mini-II-vR-Cam[19] cameras adapted for water sports due to the polarization filters and a specialized control panel Control-VR.

The cooperation between World Aquatics and SLOMO.TV has resulted[20] in the implementation of video refereeing in water polo with videoReferee®-SR[21] system at international competitions.

VAR solutions for canoe slalom

International Canoe Federation (ICF) is using customized videoReferee® solutions that meet all the requirements for refereeing in canoe slalom.

ICF has utilized videoReferee® systems at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, 2020 Tokyo Olympics and other international competitions.

VAR solutions for handball

videoReferee® has been selected by International Handball Federation (IHF) as the complete video refereeing system for the Men's Handball World Championship 2017 in France.

The SLOMO.TV 1U/2U VAR systems allow referees to monitor the game in close proximity to the handball court.

Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics

During the 2020 Summer Olympics, SLOMO.TV servers became the first ever used Video Assisted Review (VAR) solution to be used for Water Polo at the Olympic Games.

SLOMO.TV was then introduced as the video refereeing technology provider for UWW in two new sports - Greco-Roman Wrestling and Freestyle Wrestling.

ICF used the videoReferee® servers for the second consecutive Olympics.
