The Publicist was an Australian periodicial published between 1936 and 1942. It was published and financed by businessman William John Miles, who edited the publication under the pseudonym John Benauster.

The Publicist was launched in July 1936 .[1]

Miles edited and wrote under the pseudonym "John Benauster", and occasionally under other pseudonyms. Stephensen typically used his own name .

Other contributors included P. R. Stephensen and Xavier Herbert.

Stephensen described The Publicist as "a paper of big ideas and small circulation".[2] The magazine usually comprised 16 pages set in double columns. It had an average print run of 3,000 copies and was sold by subscription and via news agencies. The magazine did not feature advertisements and was financed solely by Miles, averaging losses of £2,000 per year. It was headquarter at the T&G Building on Elizabeth Street, Sydney.[2]
