Ephraim Rhodes (16 August 1882 – 30 September 1960) was an English professional
Football League for Sunderland in the early 20th century. He also played for and managed Brentford in the Southern League and was posthumously inducted into the club's Hall of Fame
in May 2015.
Playing career
Sunderland
Born in
1907–08 would be Rhodes' final season with Sunderland, in which he made only eight appearances, but he scored his only goal for the club from open play.[8] He made 120 appearances and scored five goals in a six-season spell with the Rokerites.[9]
Brentford
Rhodes moved to
post-war season of competitive football in September 1919,[14] but did not make an appearance and subsequently retired as a player.[15]
Coaching and managerial career
Rhodes became
trainer in 1922 and served until 1925.[2]
Personal life
Rhodes married Daisy Caroline Shinner in 1904 and they had three children.[19] He served in the Royal Army Pay Corps (Royal Fusiliers) during the First World War.[18] Rhodes' younger brother Ernie was also a footballer and the pair played together at Grangetown Athletic and Sunderland.[20] Following his time at Brentford, Rhodes became a supporter of the club.[2]
