History

A post office has been in operation at Erwin since 1882.[6] The town site was platted in 1887.[7] James Erwin Hollister, an early postmaster, gave the town his name.[7]

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.48 square miles (1.24 km2), all land.[8]

The average household size was 2.05 and the average family size was 2.53.

The median age in the town was 59.5 years. 22.2% of residents were under the age of 18; 2.1% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 6.6% were from 25 to 44; 28.9% were from 45 to 64; and 40% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 51.1% male and 48.9% female.
