Summary

Description
English: During haematopoiesis monocytes, a type of leukocytes diverge. These circulate the blood stream. Regularly Leukocyte extravasation occurs. In the blood vessel wall (under the Endothelium monolayer), monocytes can further differentiate into macrophages. And macrophages can become foam cells after phagocytosing to much oxidized LDL particles. HDL particles can mitigate atherosclerosis. Foam cells do secrete cytokines and Chemokines. Cf. inflammation!
