Description

This item refers to the unpublished manuscript of Henry Weed Fowler, entitled "The Fishes of the groups Stomiatoidei, Synbranchii, Apodes, Heteromi, Lyopomi, Imiomi and relateed forms, mostly bathylpelagic, collected by the United States Bureau of Fisheries Steamer 'Albatross', chiefly in Philippine Seas and adjacent waters". Fowler wrote the manuscript while at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, circa 193-1941. The manuscript consists primarily of handwritten materials and is divided into several parts: (1) Manuscript and typescript of Part 7 entitled The Fishes of the groups Stomiatoidei, Synbranchii, Apodes, Heteromi, Lyopomi, Iniomi and related forms, mostly bathypelagic, collected by the United States Bureau of Fisheries Steamer "Albatross," chiefly in Philippine Seas and adjacent waters. (Boxes 1-3); (2) Manuscript and typescript of Part 8, entitled The Fishes of the Orders Synentognathi, Anacanthini, Allotriognathi and Heterosomata collected by the United States Bureau of Fisheries Steamer "Albatross," chiefly in Philippine Seas and adjacent waters. (Boxes 3-5); (3) Manuscript of Part 9, entitled The Fishes of the Orders Zeoidei, Berycoidei, Thoracostei (Lophobranchii, Hypostomides, Aulostomi) and Percomorphi (Percesoces and Rhegnopteri) collected by the United States Bureau of Fisheries Steamer "Albatross," chiefly in Philippine Seas and adjacent waters. (Boxes 5-6); (4) Manuscript of Part 1, entitled The Scombroid Fishes of the Families Scombridae, Thunnidae, Scomberomoridae, Gempylidae, Lepidopidae, Trichiuridae, Xiphiidae, Istiophoridae, Coryphaenidae, Bramidae, Pteraclidae, Centrolophidae, Stromateidae, Tetragonuridae, Carangidae, Pomatomidae, Rachycentridae, Kurtidae, Lactariidae, Menidae and Leiognathidae collected by the United States Bureau of Fisheries Steamer "Albatross," chiefly in Philippine Seas and adjacent waters.
