Purpose of use

To illustrate the work of the visual artist who is the article's subject, and specifically to exemplify rare non-comics-related art by the artist. The text notes, "Wood expanded into book illustrations, including for the picture-cover editions (though not the dust-jacket editions) of titles in the 1959 Aladdin Books reissues of Bobbs Merrill's 1947 'Childhood of Famous Americans" series.'" This creative expansion from the field in which he was well-known and established into a realm requiring a different style of art is biographically significant. Seeing only the artist's primary style does not give an appreciable understanding of the artist in terms of his scope and stylistic range.
