In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Hayter had a population of 84 living in 41 of its 47 total private dwellings, a change of -5.6% from its 2016 population of 89. As a designated place in the 2016 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Hayter had a population of 89 living in 36 of its 47 total private dwellings, a change of -13.6% from its 2011 population of 103. With a land area of 0.7 km2 (0.27 sq mi), it had a population density of 127.1/km2 (329.3/sq mi) in 2016.[4]
