Bauer had previously run for a Columbia City Council At-Large seat.[1]

In the 2022 general election for South Carolina House of Representatives District 75, Bauer defeated Republican Kirkman Finlay III,[2] who had been a member of the South Carolina House since 2012. Bauer was outraised by Finlay,[3][4] but prevailed due to public concern about women's reproductive rights.[5][6]
Statements were issued by both the South Carolina Democratic Party and the South Carolina Republican Party.[7]
Bauer is a member of the House Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs Committee.[8]

In March 2024, Bauer will face former South Carolina House District 75 incumbent Finlay or Tracy Robins[9] once the Republican primary is conducted. Finley received the endorsement of House Speaker Murrell Smith Jr.[10]
