Hillsboro is a town in Cain Township, Fountain County, Indiana, United States. Its population was 538 at the 2010 census.
History
The post office was established in 1829 as Hillsborough.[4] It was named from the terrain.[5]
In Cain township, at Hillsboro, the oldest church was the Methodist. The building was 30 by 36 feet, costing one thousand six hundred dollars. The society was formed there in 1870, with thirty-two members. The New Light doctrines were then being pressed on the minds of people in this section, and it was a long, hard struggle to maintain the new church, but finally it succeeded, and it had forty-two members in 1880, since which it has advanced.[6]
Geography
Hillsboro is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 136 and State Road 341, about a mile south of Interstate 74.
According to the 2010 census, Hillsboro has a total area of 0.31 square miles (0.80 km2), all land.[7]

There were 207 households, of which 37.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.7% were married couples living together, 17.4% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.4% had a male householder with no wife present, and 27.5% were non-families. 21.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.01.
The median age in the town was 38.2 years. 27.5% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.1% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 25.1% were from 25 to 44; 26.2% were from 45 to 64; and 13% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 48.7% male and 51.3% female.

The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 30.1% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 88.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.9 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $41,806, and the median income for a family was $46,458. Males had a median income of $30,547 versus $23,611 for females. The
