Sosa run unopposed for the vice presidential nomination.[4]
During the campaign, Martínez promised to continue the crime prevention Safe El Salvador Plan created by outgoing President
By late January 2019, just days before election, Martínez was polling in third place behind front runner Nayib Bukele of the Grand Alliance for National Unity and businessman Carlos Calleja of the Nationalist Republican Alliance (ARENA).[5] The presidential election was held on 3 February 2019.
