Karoline Mariechen "Karol" Meyer (born October 19, 1968 in

apnea free diving, with a dive of 121m (328ft), and one for static apnea with oxygen with a time of 18 minutes and 32 seconds.[1]

Career

Meyer became the first and only Brazilian woman athlete to achieve world records, and the first athlete in the freediving world to break a world record during an official free diving competition, according to Rank Brazil.[2]

During her career, Meyer collected 13 victories[3] in international events and 7 victories in national events.[citation needed] She achieved one of the deepest shipwreck dives in the world at Fernando de Noronha, diving 63 meters to reach the Corveta Ipiranga.[4]

She has been awarded with 2 international awards as the Best Coach and Best Instructor in the world, one by Icare Trophye and one by SUUNTO/ AIDA - International Association to Apnea Development.[5]

In 2016, she was selected to participate in the women's cycling team of Avai, as she was the 6th best cycling athlete in the Elite category of the National Ranking of the Brazilian Cycling Confederation.[citation needed]

Charity work

Meyer participates in fundraising for accessible education in disadvantaged communities. She supports programs against child labor, and advocated for children with parents whose income depends directly on the sea and who live on the sea.[citation needed]

Meyer works with the Brazilian Islands Society and other entities to protect whales, especially Franca whales. She also contributes to the Franca Whale Project, the Tamar Project, Gouliath Groupers Brazilian Preservation and SeaShepherd as Sea Ambassador.[citation needed]
