Lichynia [liˈxɨɲa] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Leśnica, within Strzelce County, Opole Voivodeship, in southern Poland.[1] It lies approximately 3 kilometres (2 mi) south-east of Leśnica, 11 km (7 mi) south-west of Strzelce Opolskie, and 35 km (22 mi) south-east of the regional capital Opole.

History

The oldest known mention of the village comes from 1223, when it was part of

Poland
.

In the 18th century, the village was annexed by

Third Silesian Uprising, in 1921, the village was the site of a German massacre of captured Polish insurgents.[3] In 1936, the German administration renamed the village Lichtenforst to erase traces of Polish origin. The village became again part of Poland following Germany's defeat in World War II
, and its historic name was restored.
