Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.1 square miles (93.4 km2), of which 35.9 square miles (93.0 km2) is land and 0.2 square mile (0.4 km2) (0.44%) is water.
Mayfield Township is located in the south of Grand Traverse County, and shares a boundary with Wexford County.

- M-113 begins at a junction with M-37 in the northwest of the township, before heading due east as a section line road. The highway travels for a few miles before entering Paradise Township, and running through Kingsley.
Communities
- Bartlett was the site of a rural post office in Mayfield Township from 1879 until 1903.[4][5]
- Hannah is a small community at 44°35′5.01″N 85°38′8.25″W / 44.5847250°N 85.6356250°W.[6] A post office at Hannah was established in 1881, operating until 1904.[7] In 1885, a Catholic church was built in the community.[5] The town takes its name from the Hannah Lay and Company, which conducted lumber operations in Grand Traverse County. The company's founder was Perry Hannah, who later became the first mayor of Traverse City.[8] Today, Hannah remains the location of a catholic school and parish.[9]
- Immediately south of the Mayfield Township line lies the village of Buckley in Wexford County.
- Just east of Mayfield Township lies the village of Kingsley.
- The city of Traverse City is about 12 miles (19 km) north of Mayfield Township.

There were 439 households, out of which 36.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.2% were married couples living together, 10.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.8% were non-families. 17.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 4.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.88 and the average family size was 3.20.
In the township the population was spread out, with 29.3% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 31.0% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 8.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females, there were 108.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.6 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $40,820, and the median income for a family was $44,464. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $19,844 for females. The
