History

Morning Sun was laid out in 1851 by Cicero Hamilton.^[4]

Geography

Morning Sun is located on the north side of Iowa Highway 78 approximately 1.5 miles north of the Louisa-Des Moines county line. Wapello is about six miles north.^[5]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.80 square miles (2.07 km²), all land.^[6]
