History

Oran was originally named "St. Cloud", and under the latter name was founded in the late 1860s.^[4] A post office called Oran has been in operation since 1882.^[5] The present name is a transfer from Oran, Algeria.^[4]

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.08 square miles (2.80 km²), all land.^[6]

The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.03.

The median age in the city was 38.3 years. 27.1% of residents were under the age of 18; 7.8% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 25% were from 25 to 44; 24.1% were from 45 to 64; and 15.8% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 49.8% male and 50.2% female.

The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.02.

In the city the population was spread out, with 27.5% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 16.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 91.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.9 males.

Oran R-III Schools operates one elementary school and Oran High School.^[9] Guardian Angel School is a Catholic institution.^[10]
