Peter M. M. G. Akkermans (born

Professor of Ancient Near Eastern archaeology at Leiden University.[1]

Akkermans was awarded his

Balikh Valley area in northern Syria.[2] He published an extensive compilation of Syria's archaeology with Glenn M. Schwarz in 2003 titled The Archaeology of Syria.[1][3]
