Pharsalia is an interior town of Chenango County, located in the western half of the county, northwest of the city of Norwich. Pharsalia has a population of about 570 people as of 2017.

The town received its first settler in 1797. Pharsalia was founded from part of the town of Norwich in 1806 as "Stonington". In 1808, the town was renamed "Pharsalia". Pharsalia means goddess of war in Hebrew ^{[citation needed]}.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 39.1 square miles (101.3 km²), of which 38.8 square miles (100.5 km²) is land and 0.31 square miles (0.8 km²), or 0.75%, is water.^[3]

New York State Route 23 is an east-west highway through the town.
