Preston Stone is an American football quarterback who plays for the SMU Mustangs.
Early life
Stone was born in
College career
In Stone's first season in 2021, he completed three out of his seven passing attempts for 24 yards.[6] Stone was selected to the American's all-academic team for the 2021–22 school year.[7]
In week eight of the 2022 season, Stone made his first career start, as he went 11 for 17 passing for 219 yards and a touchdown, as he helped the Mustangs beat Tulsa.[8] Stone finished the 2022 season completing 28 of his 48 passes for 388 yards and two touchdowns to one interception; Stone also rushed for 63 yards and two touchdowns.[9]
In week one of the 2023 season, Stone went 23 for 37 on his passing attempts for 248 yards and three touchdowns, as he helped SMU start off the season with a win, beating Louisiana Tech 38–14.[10][11] In week three, Stone had a breakout game completing 15 of his 20 pass attempts for 300 yards and five touchdowns to one interception, while also adding a touchdown on the ground, as SMU defeated Prairie View A&M 69–0.[12][13] In week ten, Stone suffered a concussion during the game against Rice.[14] After starting every game for the 2023 season, Stone suffered an ankle injury during SMU's 59–14 victory over Navy, leaving him unable to participate in the December 4 AAC Championship Game against Tulane.[15]
