Sergei Hackel
Russian Orthodox priest, theologian, academic and broadcaster, who was the senior priest in Britain of the Russian Orthodox Diocese of Sourozh

Hackel was born in
1917 revolution.[2]
He was educated at the
Sussex University. He taught Russian at the university for 25 years.[4]
Hackel was active in the
British Council of Churches and was active in Continental Europe and the World Council of Churches. For the last 30 years of his life he was editor of the ecumenical Orthodox journal Sobornost.[8] From 1984 until his death he worked for the BBC World Service as the weekly editor of Russian religious broadcasts, and was closely involved in the work of the Council of Christians and Jews.[9]
As a married man, he was barred from becoming a
bishop
.
