As of 2019, the City of Hamilton and the HWDSB is planning to demolish the former school and build a community centre.[1]

Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary School was opened in 1970 to replace Hamilton's Central Secondary School. The school is named after former Canadian

Prime Minister, John A. Macdonald
. It became a semestered school in 1976.
