The O'Donnell lineage actually dates well before 1000, it's only the specific tribal name that changed around that date; 2.) the word "ancient" is accurate; it does not refer to any specific range of dates; a different but related word "antiquity", does; 3.) Actually, the O'Donnells were NOT the dominant tribe for their entire history, only since about 1200
