William McCrary Ray, II (born 1963) is the Presiding Judge on the Georgia Court of Appeals and is a nominee to be a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

Biography

Ray was born in Macon, Georgia in 1963.[1] He received his Bachelor of Business Administration from the Terry College of Business magna cum laude, his Master of Business Administration, from the Terry College of Business and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law. He previously served for six years in the Georgia State Senate and was a partner in the Gwinnett County law firm of Andersen, Davidson & Tate, P.C.. On January 14, 2002 he took the oath of office to be a Superior Court Judge on the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit,[1] a position which he served for ten years.[2] On July 30, 2012, Governor Nathan Deal swore in Ray to serve as the 76th Judge of the Court of Appeals of Georgia.[1]

On July 13, 2017, President Trump nominated Ray to serve as a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, to the seat vacated by Judge Harold Lloyd Murphy, who took senior status on March 31, 2017. His nomination is currently pending before the Senate Judiciary Committee.[3]
