RuPaul's Drag Race

Reason: All seasons of the show need to be protected. The progress tables were recently changed to remove a bunch of policy-violating

WP:OR, and now there is a sudden spate of new editors creating accounts solely to revert the change. Daundelin 14:24, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply

diff of an edit showing the problem with a brief explanation of how someone here could recognize that it is a problem. Johnuniq (talk) 07:45, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply

@Johnuniq: see the histories for example:
That's just three of the many pages. The basic problem here is that Drag Race (like many pop culture properties, I suspect) is absolutely riddled with fans who are convinced that whatever they want is therefore encyclopedic. There was a discussion here Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_RuPaul%27s_Drag_Race#It_has_been_a_while which is where the consensus for the changes was made; you can see the stark difference between policy-based argument and "but I like it so it should stay" argument. After posting they were going to make the changes, @Thijslandsmeer: waited quite some time before implementing them. It was only after implementation that there has suddenly been an influx of brand new accounts trying to editwar the changes away solely because they don't like it. They largely appear impervious to how policy actually works, and so protection is necessary to stop the endless disruption to the articles. Disruption which was even worse before the change, because there were constant wars over who was 'high' or 'low' with various editors clinging to their own personal interpretation of what a 'positive' or 'negative' critique is. Which quite neatly encapsulates the problem: brand new and/or single-purpose accounts are edit-warring to maintain a preferred version over which they can edit-war. Johnuniq per your comment "I have to warn you that people roam Wikipedia looking for single-purpose templates ..." see this discussion from less than a month ago. Frietjes (talk) 20:46, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. It's unfortunate that such a lot of time wasting comes from these kinds of articles and if I were Jimbo they would all be ECP protected. Johnuniq (talk) 03:48, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Johnuniq: see here, for example, observe the edit summaries: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=RuPaul%27s_Drag_Race_All_Stars_(season_2)&curid=47327453&action=history
It's just ridiculous. Fans of the show (and, for the record, I am one) are doing the usual thing where they are unable to distinguish between encyclopedic content supported by policy, and what they want. There was consensus for the change; the user who initiated the changes made an announcement after much discussion and then waited a week before implementing. The nonsense needs to stop. Daundelin 02:26, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That article has now been semi-protected by another admin. If more is wanted, please answer the question in my earlier comment and be specific about exactly what is wanted. I pointed out that semi-protection would not help in at least one case and that a clear RfC would be needed to settle that page. Johnuniq (talk) 03:20, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lauren Tsai

Reason: According to the sources, she has dual citizenship of United States and China, but there are no other sources that specify whether it is the

Republic of China (commonly known as Taiwan). This unclear status of her nationality has caused many unregistered users to constantly change the content of her nationality, causing vandalism. Cisdine (talk) 09:25, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply

Panevėžys

Reason: Hello, recently I myself contributed quality content to article Panevėžys (1, 2), which is about the 5th largest city in Lithuania. However, by glancing at the edit history of this article, I soon noticed that over the past year it almost constantly was subject to vandalism and childish disruptive editing (1 - mass removal of content and added words which says that Zinka has big boobs, 2 - it says that Panevėžys is shit, 3 - self-declaration of non-notable person, 4 - random person name and surname added, 5 - childish editing, 6 - same editor (in Lithuanian myliu tave means I love you), 6 and 7 - another childish editor, 8 - most likely self-declaration of non-notable Counter-Strike:GO video game player).

Seeing such nearly constant disruptive behavior of multiple editors, I request to apply permanent Semi-protection to this article in order to avoid disruptive childish IP editing and to protect quality content of this important Lithuanian article. I'm planning to expand this important article with even more quality content and it would be too difficult to constantly monitor if some childish IP editors will perform disruptive editing, especially as some time will pass by. -- Pofka (talk) 10:23, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
