Unintended Reactions During Synthesis

It says in the previous step to have an excess of nitric acid. However, some concentrations of nitric acid react with alcohols. What concentrations of nitric are safe with which alcohols? What concentrations are unsafe? How are they unsafe?

What are some inorganics incompatible with aluminum nitrate? I assume methanol and butanol are compatible but what about other alcohols or functional groups?

Thanks for any help in advance. 146.6.145.8 21:10, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Man Who Doesn't Want to Explode[reply]

Generally, you don't want to store alcohols with 5% HNO3 or use alcohols in the lab with 10 % HNO3...I think but I could be wrong66.68.47.94Man Who Hopes You Don't Explode

Synthesis doesn't work

mixing those alcohols in that wt% doesn't do what that paragraphs says. I will delete that paragraph in few days to a week unless convinced otherwise. —The preceding

Nature

Pure Al nitrate was not yet found in the nature, but "impure" ones are known: sveite and lislkirchnerite. www.mindat.org = the reference. Eudialytos (talk) 00:55, 4 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
