YouTube's most subscribed list

This is not a reliable source, and should not be used alone. It cannot be used alone because YouTube censor many 'channels' they believe viewers may find offensive, e.g. Pat Condell. As the order is always changing, instead of updating it constantly, you are better of saying 'RandomYouTuber is one of the top 100 most subscribed to users.'--Seriousspender (talk) 19:46, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

If we have a source that YouTube's own ranking aren't accurate for their channels then we could potentially include that. It's likely that anyone else's reporting of the same information would also lean on YouTube's information so the time being I think it's fair to consider them the authority. On wikipedia we're suppose to date the information, for example as of January 2008 this is the ranking, and we have done that. Even if the updating is never done again it's accurate of that date. It would be more potent to state he's been in the top 20 channels since such and such date so I'll look into that possibility.

In thinking about it YouTube's ranking are only snapshots so until they show, or someone develops a chant of progress or someone publishes that information I think we should stay with where we are at. If he starts to go down in the rankings we could note his highest position and date that.

Selected filmography?

I don't understand why 7 of his videos are listed there, why not mention them all? They don't seem anymore notable than 'LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE'. Unless they have been mentioned by sources.--Seriousspender (talk) 22:32, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Per prior discussion the selected filmography has been purposefully been limited to those with at least a million views and those mentioned by sources. These also got those million-plus views prior to the "Leave Britney Alone" video so also demonstrate that he had quite a following as an internet celeb prior to the big splash. It's likely others of his videos have reached beyong the million mark as well but I honestly feel that the ones we've included give a reasonable overview of his 60-70-plus videos that we know of; we cover the material dispassionately and site our sources in accordance with policies on

What so your going to keep checking all his videos until they have 1million views so you can add them? I think only ones with real sources should be mentioned.--Seriousspender (talk) 07:44, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
As noted above most of them do have sources and all of them have met the above threshold prior to the "Leave Britney Alone" video that made him more internationally known. No, I'm not "going to keep checking all his videos" to see if and when some other move beyond the million-views mark (several more have, I believe). Please also see

You are good at assuming bad faith, maybe I was not aware of the sources policy? And maybe I wanted the article to stay relevant and not end up being filled with unencyclopedic/unverifiable fancruft? Quality > Quantity? I have removed the video 'Britney, this is for you.' as 2million views and x amount of comments is not a reason for it to be notable.--Seriousspender (talk) 14:40, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

From Crocker, I believe it was on his MySpace page which he now lists himself as "professional enlightener / preacher". The refs have been moved and vandalized so it probably got just removed or moved in one of the many edits. I'll re-add the dated MySpace page and another ref.

That's a good point. I added the information myself as Crocker himself has stated it on his homepage. I will also note that I expect that he may reveal his identity or it will be reported in RS soon as he is near legal age and he seems to have now re-located from his homestate where threats and violence were apparently an everyday reality to Los Angeles where the paparazzi are the bigger issue. I will also note that we will still stick with policy on revealing the same information as we have done before.

For what my opinion is worth, I think that the whole Chris Crocker phenomenon chould be boiled down to a sentence or two on the Britney Spears page, with a link to Youtube. Aside from that one incident, there's not really anything noteworthy enough to be worth chronicling here. As time goes by, this becomes more and more apparent.--Wee Charlie (talk) 16:58, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Your opinion is totally valid but wikipedia policies suggest that the article and Crocker's notability remain even if he never does anything else.

His worldwide fame indeed came from the one video but his notability was apprent prior to and post that video as well. Even he stated he wished that wasn't the way he became known to the whole world but it's simply the most famous of the now 80-90 videos he's published and we seem to emphasize that in the article.

Any "internet celebrity" doesn't deserve a wiki page. Mostly because they are really only famous on that, the internet. Mention Crocker in one of two sentences on Spear's page and get this out of here. He wastes enough memory on the internet with his dumb videos, then theres this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.60.226.203 (talk) 07:38, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

I second, He is a internet celebrity. Such Celebrities should be merged into one page. Crying about Britney Spears should not make a person famous. This guy is basically famous for not deserving to be famous, we should not be encouraging that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mattcruise (talkcontribs) 03:32, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

"Openly gay"

I'm gonna be bold and remove this in the lead paragraph. My reasoning, as I stated in the edit summary, is that (for example) Jon Stewart's article doesn't start off by naming him as a Jewish straight male. Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :) 01:25, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

OK, I now at least see what you meant by your edit summary. If everything Jon Stewart published and talked about was about being Jewish would that maybe sway your opinion? Because seemingly everything Crocker says and publishes is about being an openly gay kid; arguably this might change as he grows older, or maybe tired of this recurring theme, but even Madonna and Britney seem sex-focused likely because sex sells as a hot-button topic. Crocker seems to be trying to get attention so he can talk about various issues and he odd appeal coupled with sexual overtones seems to be working. There's a new five second-long vid of his where he simply blinks twice while staring into the camera. It's been viewed nearly two million times. He's a character and his sexuality seems to be worn on the sleeve.
