Ages
QS, why are you removing victims' ages? Gob Lofa (talk) 12:05, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- A) for consistency -- since not all ages are listed for all victims, either the Troubles or as far as I can tell, in general on Wikipedia
- B) because I don't think they are necessary. It is an extra burden, and aside from exceptional circumstances (babies, octogenarians) they are not particularly relevant. If you want to add them, fine. Just let me know and I will stay out of your way until you're finished. Quis separabit? 01:07, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
- Not all names are listed either, but that didn't stop you (nor should it). It's relevant information, so I'm going to put it back in. Gob Lofa (talk) 09:59, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

14 January 1993 Loyalist assassination attempt
@
Hey,
The citation source for the entry "14 January 1993: a senior loyalist was shot several times and killed at his home near the Shankhill Road. The gunman first threw a brick through the man's window, before shooting him when he went to investigate" doesn't say he was killed, only wounded. It does say another man was killed and CAIN's Sutton Index of Deaths does list a former Republican prisoner who was killed on that date. Also, the article doesn't attribute responsibility to a specific Republican group and notes that he was targeted by both the IRA and IPLO before. The page Timeline of Irish National Liberation Army actions already lists the assassination attempt as an INLA action and has a corroborating source.
Your respectfully, NelsonEdit (talk) 08:27, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
- I've removed it. The reference states
A man was killed and another seriously injured in two separate shooting incidents in west and south Belfast last night. The injured man was a prominent loyalist shot and seriously wounded by republican gunmen at his home in the Shankill Road area
. Nosenior loyalist was shot several times and killed
, as the article stated, and there's no mention of IRA responsibility for the 1993 attempt on the loyalist's life. FDW777 (talk) 11:41, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

20 June 1992 Gun Attack
@
Hey, other period sources detailing the 20 June gun attack mention that the security forces also found a booby-trap bomb under the getaway car used by the IRA members responsible and I'll add that. However, every report on the incident I've found only describes the target as being a former policeman e.g. Liverpool Echo 23 June 1992: SECURITY forces in Ulster defused a large IRA booby-trap bomb found under a car used by gunmen who launched a weekend attack on a former policeman's home in Pomeroy, Co Tyrone. Did the IRA issue a statement claiming their intended victim was tied to Loyalist paramilitaries?
Yours respectfully, --NelsonEdit2 (talk) 18:24, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

September 1991 tractor bomb
There's been some confusion over an abortive bomb attack near Roslea, County Fermanagh involving a tractor in 1991. Previously the entry for 4 September listed without detail a proxy bomb attack in Count Armagh but this was corrected with a merge a few days ago. The entry originally described an attack involving a remote-control bomb but I've found at least one source outlining a proxy bomb attack; Evening Herald September 5:
- Page 41
Ten IRA men burst into a house close to the checkpoint at Annaghmartin on Tuesday evening. They held five members of a family hostage and beat up some of them while their parents were away. The Rev. Edwy Kille said three of the family, aged three to 20, were tied up and forced to lie on the floor of a bedroom while two others were led away across a field. He believed one of the young men was taken into a field and forced to drive the bomb, concealed in a silage trailer behind a tractor, to the checkpoint. The plan went wrong when the trailer became bogged down and the driver was forced to make his way home barefoot. At one stage one of the family tried to escape from a first floor window but was caught by the terrorists.
- Page 41
Also, Page 327 of Ballymurphy and the Irish War describes the bomb as a "proxy device". I'll hold off making any edits without a bit of further digging but thought anyone keeping an eye on this article to ought to know :)

Splitting this article
This article is currently one of the largest on the wiki, with 434,899 bytes, which is far too long. After looking at the section sizes and doing some math, there are two options:
- Split this article into Chronology of Provisional Irish Republican Army actions (1990–1992) with 281,492 bytes, and Chronology of Provisional Irish Republican Army actions (1993–1999) with 153,407 bytes. Even though it is not a perfect split in half, it makes the most sense given the other pages (each of them being sorted by decade).
- Split 1991 and 1992 into their own articles, which would leave this article with 229,634 bytes.
I am open to either option, though I feel that the first one makes more sense given that these articles are all sorted by decade. Blubabluba9990 (talk) (contribs) 19:26, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- I am for the first solution, in order to respect the chronological order.--Darius (talk) 22:10, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Update: It actually seems like the 1993 section has gotten longer, as it now has ~81,000 bytes. Blubabluba9990 (talk) (contribs) 15:35, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- I am also for the first solution, but I am not really keen on imperfect splits. :( zsteve21 (talk) 11:36, 29 September 2021 (BST)
- I want your opinion on whether it's better to split the article into (January 1990 - June 1992) and (July 1992 - December 1999), or into (1990-1994) and (1995-1999) zsteve21 (talk) 10:37, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
- I would say that doing January 1990–June 1992 and July 1992–December 1999 would be better, since the first four sections are so large that a split by 1990–1994 and 1995–1999 would be disproportionate. Blubabluba9990 (talk) (contribs) 13:59, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
- There's no need to rush to split the article. WP:HASTE states, quoting: "As browsers have improved, there is no need for haste in splitting an article when it starts getting large. Sometimes an article simply needs to be big to give the subject adequate coverage. If uncertain, or with high profile articles, start a discussion on the talkpage regarding the overall topic structure. Determine whether the topic should be treated as several shorter articles and, if so, how best to organize them. If the discussion makes no progress consider adding one of the split tags in order to get feedback from other editors." Ergzay (talk) 03:48, 15 October 2021 (UTC)]
- It seems as though there is consensus for splitting. The article is currently too long, and there is also ]
