If you do merge Direct linking and Inline linking, at this moment in time I like the text on the Inline linking page a bit better. The people who are going to be sent here are probably the people who don't know what this is, and they are likely to be non-techncial people. The content on the Direct linking page starts out with very technical terms.

Redirect to 'Inline linking' or to 'Deep linking' ?

I also think that

Direct linking , redirect to Inline linking at the moment, should redirect to Deep linking
instead: a direct link is a link that is usually 'deep', so it's not related with embedding media served off-site (Inline linking).
