Q: Where to put ladder dogs? A: "Dog (engineering)#Ladder dogs"

Dog as a part of an extension ladder needs to be added, but I'm not sure how it should be listed, since dog (mechanical) already exists. Dogs on ladders are the parts that hold the ladder at a certain height, and articulate against pawls to allow adjustment. Just do you best, Wikipedia says
BE BOLD, if it doesn't turn out right someone will fix it for you (Thats the point of the thing) Fasach Nua 20:16, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply

Hi catseyes. I just noticed this comment. You are quite right that ladder dogs ought to be mentioned in Wikipedia. The perfect place for it is under Dog (engineering) (which is where "Dog (mechanical)" redirects to now), with its own subheading. Other types of mechanical dogs (shutter dogs, hatch dogs, etc.) have their own subheading there as well. I am going to go add it there. Thanks. — Lumbercutter 16:55, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

==Some/most of the senses under "Media" are nothing more than free association, not true disambiguation; but probably best to just sequester and ignore it==hi

They really don't belong here in terms of

WP:MOSDAB, but I am not going to delete them right now, because I feel like it is a natural urge for random newbies to keep adding them forever, and since you can't prevent that, you may as well at least channel it and control it. At least if you provide a structured container for people to dump this silly detritus into, you don't have to fight them constantly about it. Kind of like providing a grounding conductor to let lightning discharge harmlessly to earth. You can't keep lightning from existing, so you may as well just put up a lightning rod and safely ignore the output. — Lumbercutter 17:12, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply

BTW sorry to have to introduce the "b-word", I'm sure it adds to the anti-vandalism work. However, I thought it needed to be mentioned if that aspect of the word "dog" is. Steve Dufour 06:25, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge

Seems no point in having The Dog as a separate page. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:06, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support merge. Came here to say the same thing. We don't even need to merge as this page has more entries for 'The dog' than The Dog (disambiguation).
As well as that being the convention for the definite article suggested by
MOS:DP
, the maintainance of a fork of the same content over there seems too costly in manpower for any gain to ease of disambiguation for users.
