Summary box - the IUPAC name is totally wrong. Try (2E,6E,10E)-3,7,11,15-Tetramethylhexadeca-2,6,10,14-tetraene-1-diphosphate. The structure is the trianion but the formula is for the conjugate ('unionized') acid. GGPP is not synthesized by HMG-CoA encoded by the Columbus gene. HMG-CoA is the intermediate metabolite that GGPP is synthesized from, presumably by the product of the Columbus gene. 69.72.92.131 (talk) 02:30, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- I only found the trianion form on other web pages, so I suggest to change to formula to [C20H33O7P2]3-.

The topic sentence: "Geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate is an intermediate in the HMG-CoA reductase pathway used by organisms in the biosynthesis of terpenes and terpenoids" is incorrect, and should be removed.
