Somebody should probably actually write this article. I would do this myself, but alas, know too little about the animals and have no time for this sort of thing.

Wikipedia's Manual of Style for disambiguation pages

Keep in mind that the primary purpose of the disambiguation page is to help people find the information they want quickly and easily. These pages are not for exploration, but only to help the user navigate to a specific article.

The only information that is needed about any link on a dab page, is enough information for the user to determine whether that is the article he is looking for. For example, since there's only one sports team known as "GOAT", and a user looking for that sports team presumably knows that he is looking for a sports team, it's irrelevant that the GOAT sports team is elite-level and from Toronto.

The only links that I deemed inappropriate and removed entirely were:

  • Sigil of Baphomet, because the article doesn't even mention "goat", let alone asserts that the sigil is referred to as "goat"
  • The "See also" links for goatee, scapegoat, and goatse.cx, because it is similarly unlikely that anyone searching for "goat" would be looking for those articles (see WP:Disambiguation#Lists)
  • The penis-showing game, because everything about that link (the game, the movie, and the idea that someone would try searching for the "Goat" position specifically) is stupid; however, it is at least about something called "Goat" so if someone wanted to add that back I couldn't argue. That's how Wikipedia works. Propaniac 19:43, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia also generally works with
WP:BRD. :) I don't object to your cleaning up, you just removed too much info. Descriptions associated with a link should be kept to a minimum, but not that minimum as you did. Garion96 (talk) 20:12, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply

I still don't see how the intent of a dab page is better fulfilled by your additions; as the MOS says, a parenthetical term in a title is often all that's needed for the user to determine if that's his intended target, and adding longer descriptions just makes the page closer to a list of meanings which is what wiktionary is for. But the page is cleaned up, so I'll let it be. Propaniac 21:35, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, just as a comment: I've never seen that BRD page before, but I was much more annoyed that you reverted my entire edit (for such a vague reason as "it's too much") than I would have been if you'd simply added back what you did in your later edit. I disagree with reverting a significant body of changes back to the entirely unimproved version as a way to register disagreement with a portion of the change. Just my two cents. Just look at the examples at
Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages).. For example the link Goat (album)
gives almost no information. The pages does to mention from what band/artist it is an album from.
To your other comment, you were annoyed that I reverted your edit, therefore you completely reverted my edit. Makes sense.... Garion96 (talk) 21:49, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Addition?

Is the General Occupation Aptitude Test(G.O.A.T.) from fallout 3 worthy of this page (or the See also section)?

Reason for removing 'goat' (biometric) from the page?

Hi, I was curious why the entry for 'goat' (biometric) was removed from under the 'other' section? I will re-add the entry as it is a legitimate use of the term 'goat' and a reference is included. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.180.39.175 (talk) 02:09, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ghrelin O-acyltransferase (GOAT)

Could someone please add this entry. I don't know how. Hundreds of articles in Pubmed, dozens of OpenAccess reviews. 130.238.224.66 (talk) 11:09, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
