As of today,no reliable evidence exists that the Hildoceratidae derive from the Polymorphitidae, therefore I dispute the assertion. I also dispute the absence of the Mercaticeratinae in the evolutionary relationships. Furthermore the Hildoceratinae could not exist during the late Pliensbachian, since the major turnover of the ammonites took place during the OAE, within the Tethys. The OAE probably marks the limit between the Pliensbachian and the Toarcian. In my opinion the Hildoceratinae start at the beginning of the Toarcian stage.
