Yesterday, I added an entry (anonymously then, as I had yet to create this user acount) to this disambiguation page, stating that LSD could be an abbreviation of "Lynbrook Speech and Debate", "Leland Speech and Debate", or the debate club or team of any other school with a name beginning with "L."

Now, I am writing to ask why that entry had been rudely and unceremoniously taken down without any apparent warning or notification, not even a remark on this Talk page.

The entry was a perfectly valid, factual, and formatted statement: 1. Valid- Among students in the US, it is common to refer to school clubs and teams by their initials. Debate teams are amongst the largest clubs in American schools and both LSDs mentioned (Lynbrook and Leland) are rather renowned throughout the country and include hundreds of students in their membership. If I am not mistaken, Leland Speech and Debate is indeed the largest debate group in the US.

2. Factual- The website of Lynbrook Speech and Debate at www.lynbrooksd.net verifies the validity of LSD as an official initialism of the debate team. LSD is also common parlance amongst Leland students to refer to their debate team- an officer from Leland's debate team (http://www.lelandsd.org/general/chairs.shtml) could be contacted to verify this.

3. Formatted- The entry was properly bullet-pointed, in line with the format of the other entries of the page. In addition, links were given to the Wikipedia entries of both Lynbrook High School and Leland High School.

Thus, I would like a proper explanation as to why my post was taken down.

In the meantime, I shall repost and ask that anyone who desires to eliminate that entry a second time defend his position properly, as I have done for mine, on this talk page.

The debate clubs of the Lynbrook High School, the Leland High School, and of any other school with a name beginning with "L." are simply not notable enough to be mentioned here. This is also indicate by the fact that none of them has its own article (don't understand this as a request to start them...). This is an encyclopedia and not a dictionary of acronyms. Cacycle, in my opinion... 1. Your statement "this is... not a dictionary of acronyms" is contradictory to what is evident on the LSD disambiguation page. I do not understand how half the other entries on the page (such as those of works by certain bands) are notable enough to be mentioned but I am not about to delete them. In any case, you'd probably consider such a deletion to be sabotage and I likewise consider the deletion of my entry an equally unnecessary and biased measure.

2. The debate clubs of Lynbrook and Leland are certainly notable. They are neither lacking in size, prestige, nor renown amongst our generation and were Wikipedia to be maintained by a yet younger set of people, these clubs would be on par with any university student group including Liberating Students Digitally, which is listed on the LSD disambiguation page but also lacks a Wikipedia entry of its own.

I continue to protest but I will respect the status quo and refrain from re-posting my entry. To tell the truth, I have never been a member of any debate club (though I was indeed a student at Lynbrook), and I am much more interested in your biochemical research than speeches. However, I burn with indignation at the short shrift given on Wikipedia to societies organised by high school students in sharp contrast to the credit accorded to collegiate groups (even fraternities, for the love of god!).

Articles that are likely to never be written don't belong on a dab page. Since I cannot determine which are likely to be written and which aren't, I'm moving all of the redlinks here and they can be moved back as those articles are actually written.

This change makes it much easier for reader to find the articles that they're actually looking for (provided they exist).

Oh, I entirely agree. You'll note that there are still two redlinks in the article, but they are clearly notable ones. Heck, I'm even lighter than Tedernst in that I'm fine with the occasional entry that will never have an article, if it's relevant enough (although then, of course, it should just be text without even a redlink). The thing is, most of these moved here seem pretty shenanigany and not appropriate for a dab page at all; the redlinks are just a symptom. SnowFire 14:00, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
