  • I have completely revamped this list, which I have found very useful in the past, by adding all (probably 200 or so) of the missing entries.
  • Index now should have no gaps.
  • I'm using hcdm.org as the ultimate authority for the structure
  • I then crosscheck with uniprot.org and use the recommended protein name, often with abbreviated form, followed by "encoded by" and gene name.
  • I then link the CD name and use a little information from the corresponding Wikipedia page where it exists, or from uniprot.
  • I'm now linking to the CD name which redirects to the gene page, rather than linking directly to the gene page, in case there are further changes.
  • I've added one asterisk to indicate a group name eg CD1* , which has now been subdivided into CD1a, CD1b etc.
  • I've added 2 asterisks to indicate a CD number doesn't exist, even as a subunit, on hcdm dot org eg CD12w** My guess is these should be deleted but I'm not confident enough to do so (see CD32 especially)
  • CD numbers with red links probably need a Wikipedia page
  • I've deleted CD12w - there is no evidence for it. Nothing on hcdm or uniprot, nothing on Google search. There is an entry for CD12 on http://www.ebioscience.com/resources/human-cd-chart.htm but with no information, so maybe it is an old entry. If someone wants to replace it this is the information I removed:
    • CD12w phosphoprotein of unknown function present on monocytes, granulocytes, and NK cells and absent from basophils, AML blasts, and bone marrow precursors.
  • CD32A and B are interesting, as neither are on hdcm, but they can be found on uniprot and there are Wikipedia pages for 32/a
  • CD165 has little info on hdcm, and none on uniprot, reading between the lines though it seems it is used in commercial testing
  • I have deleted CD202a - It looks wrong to me. There is no entry for 202a on hcdm.org or uniprot.org and TIE2 is the name for CD202b
  • CD245 appears not to have any info associated with it
  • CD296 - on hcdm.org is referred to as both ART1 and ART2. I don't understand this, so have stuck to "ART1 gene"
  • several CD numbers are simply listed as "carbohydrate" on the main hcdm list, and invariably not listed on uniprot. I have made an attempt at a description eg 60a, 60b, 60c, 65, 65s, 75, 75s, 77, 173, 175, 175s, 176 - but there may be errors here, as there is little or no info on Wikipedia or the main gene protein sources

Just a personal note- This should be an important list. It contains important information, and as far as I know, no complete list exists for all the clusters of differentiation used. A set is known within each field, but Wikipedia is here to aggregate and organize data. Added 2 I found referenced in a paper. Obviously someone knows what they are, but I cant find the answer. CD stands for cluster of differentiation, which indicates a
defined subset of cellular surface receptors (epitopes) that
identify cell type and stage of differentiation, and which are
recognized by antibodies.

I have added CD155. I agree that this is an important list. I think the names of these articles make them difficult to locate. In

Manual_of_Style#Article_titles
it states, "A title should be recognizable (as a name for or description of the topic), natural, sufficiently precise, concise, and consistent with the titles of related articles." None of these articles are recognizable or natural. I think the titles are too concise. They are consistent with related articles however. I propose that all of these articles be renamed so they are recognizable and natural.

  • ALT1: It would be appropriate to rename article "CDNNN" to "Cellular protein cluster of differentiation CDNNN"
  • ALT2: rename article "CDNNN" to "Cellular surface receptor CDNNN"
  • ALT3: rename article "CDNNN" to "Biological antibody receptor CDNNN"
  • ALT4: rename article "CDNNN" to "Cell differentiation molecule CDNNN"
