• Oppose Please specify what topic(s) challenge the current primary topic. By page views, the only topic in the same ballpark as Mecha is Mechanized infantry, and it's still less than half the views. The history of those two topics suggests they have about equal longevity. The "Various topics relating to mechanics and mechanisms" entry is dubious in my opinion. • Taken together, I think the tribe of people, the language, mechanized infantry, and the Russian word have sufficient importance that the alternative name for a primarily-Japanese fictional giant robot should not be considered a dominant primary meaning (especially in regard to long-term significance, and noting that the primary name for that topic seems to be "mecha", not "mech"), although it may appear so from page views. There is also the surname and radar system, and I also believe there are other topics relating to mechanics and mechanisms (e.g.,
  Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College, which was mentioned in that redirect's article before I removed it in this edit, which are not currently explicitly included on the dab page). —BarrelProof (talk) 19:56, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply

Topics that don't even merit an entry on the DAB page probably shouldn't be much of a consideration for primacy. Also, I believe that "mecha" is just barely preferred over "mech" for that article title, which the talk archives support. -- Fyrael (talk) 06:00, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

• Oppose - No evidence has been shown for the Nom's position, they merely cite their belief that this is the case. If someone said to me "it's a mech", probably the pilotable robot is the first thing that would occur to me, so I am not sure their belief is true. A test of this using the first 30 results on GBooks returns: 13 results related to science-fiction robots, 8 results for it being a shortening of "mechanics" (e.g. "Mech of solids"), 3 results relating to the tribe, and six others related to various other things (e.g., a writer with the surname "mech", as a shortening of "mechanised infantry" etc.).
