Historical accuracy

In the film's trailer the star, a young African-American aboard a C-47 troop carrier plane, describes how he was mowing his father's lawn just three months earlier. It would have been impossible to complete basic training, infantry training, the Airborne course, a troop ship crossing of the Atlantic, and pre-invasion training maneuvers with his unit, the 101st Airborne Division, in just three months. Additionally, the US military of that era was segregated and there were no African-Americans in the 101st. The only parachute unit with African-Americans was the undermanned 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion that never deployed overseas.VilePig (talk)

These soldiers on a high risk specialist mission are just a bunch of idiots. How could such a mission be given to these clowns?

First person expression in the premise part of the article? "I have seen the film and it is nothing to do with Cloverfield"? Really?

I agree with you about the black man in an American front line combat unit. It's a jarring historical inaccuracy (and nobody, either American or German, racially insults him in the entire film, either!), but we'd need to find a third-party source and cite it.Paulturtle (talk) 01:00, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This is a completely fictional story about Nazi zombies that is set in WWII. I don't think a Historical Accuracy section is needed, as the film never pretends to be an accurate depiction of anything.

I agree that a "Historical accuracy" section would not work, but perhaps a "Historical connections" one? To indicate if there is any basis to the plausible parts of the story. It depends on if there is any coverage in this regard. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 19:09, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If historical accuracy is not an issue, why not cast black actors in the role of French civilians and Wehrmacht soldiers as well? Instead of uniforms and equipment from the early 1940s, why not use C-130s aircraft, M-16 rifles, and Vietnam-era jungle fatigues?VilePig (talk)

Critical reception

I removed a false claim here that reviews have been "generally positive". Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic diverge quite a bit, and the latter is more appropriate for a prose-based conclusion. Other sources should be used to properly summarize what critics in general thought of this film. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 22:00, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I also added in a bad review by the SF Chronicle to reflect Metacritic's weighted average of 60 out of 100 for Overlord, indicating "mixed or average reviews," and to remove questions of article's neutrality.
