Comments

Photorespiration is the energy intensive process by which plants rescue some of the carbon from phosphoglycollate, not what this article is talking about which is the oxygenase activity of rubisco. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rachelpurdon (talkcontribs) 09:27, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are totally right. Photorrespiration is the transformation of phosphoglycolate, not the production of phosphoglycolate (although, of course, it is also necessary).--Miguelferig (talk) 20:21, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I went into a little more depth on C3 and C4.

Can you add a reference for (Ashwani)?

I created a map of the pathways involved in photorespiration and put it into the new created paragraph "Biochemistry of photorespiration". If there are any mistakes, let me know and I'll correct the map. --Crenim (talk) 20:12, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Pyruvate" should be "hydroxypyruvate". It has a hydroxyl group. 129.67.43.239 (talk) 06:50, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Glycine is typoed as Gylcine. Twice! 129.67.43.239 (talk) 06:55, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There's NH2 instead of NH3. 129.67.43.239 (talk) 06:56, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Additional diagram?

The process of material recycling in Photosynthesis

Does anyone think there is any need for this additional diagram (found, confusingly and poorly explained, on the photosynthesis page) I might add it near the bottom of the page for the moment, I think it's reasonably useful.Rachelpurdon (talk) 12:05, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

To Do

  • Details on trying to improve
    Rubisco
    to try and reduce photorespiration
  • Alternative roles for photorespiration

Better lede needed urgently

The lead section is too long and too technical. Either I am thick, or it is failing to explain (in outline) how photorespiration "ameliorate[s] the consequences of a wasteful oxygenation reaction by the enzyme RuBisCO". Can someone fix this now, please? AWhiteC (talk) 10:35, 15 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Replying to my own post: always a bad sign! The first sentence reads "Photorespiration (...) is a process in plant metabolism which attempts to ameliorate the consequences of a wasteful oxygenation reaction by the enzyme RuBisCO" Surely it should read "Photorespiration (...) is a process in plant metabolism which consists of a wasteful oxygenation side-reaction by the enzyme RuBisCO" (or equivalent).
