Robert Brown (Scottish botanist from Caithness) was living in 1886 and had a close link to long travels on sail ships - but I didn't find any prove the botanist could be linked to the youth book author. And worldcat.org just puts any "Robert Browns" into one author category. Maybe anyone has a clever idea how to clear the identity of the british youth book author of 1886.
