New species

This is an ICPS article on the existence of new species (2003). Wasn't sure if that'd be helpful or not to anyone, since I haven't exactly figured out the different classification systems and how they disagree. Hope that helps. -Rkitko 03:51, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rkitko. Thanks for the link! I will integrate these new species when I finish the article. Currently I'm just working on translating it from de. When I've completed that, I'd like to look into the different classification schemes (I think I'm tending toward Jan's scheme, but I'm not sure yet), and make sure newly described species have been added. --NoahElhardt 04:44, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hope things are going well in the translation (marvelous talent you've got there; wish I could comprehend more than one language). I was browsing through the ICPS website, considering joining, and found a few articles there on new species. Sometimes, though, I wonder how many of the new species are legitimate and how many just represent the eternal struggle between lumpers and splitters. When the time comes, I'll be happy to delve in and do some research and discuss the different classification systems. Something I need to learn about anyway! Drosera omissa/D. nitidula

From: Lowrie, A. and Conran, John G. (2007). A revision of the Drosera omissa/D. nitidula complex (Droseraceae) from south-west Western Australia. Taxon, 56(2): 533-544.

"The members of the Drosera omissa Diels/D. nitidula Planch. complex are all endemic to south-west Western Australia and belong to subgen. Bryastrum (Planch.) Schlauer sect. Lamprolepsis Planch. (Schlauer 1996) [=subgen. Rorella (DC.) Diels p.p. nom. superfl. sensu Marchant & al., 1982]."

Does the list taxonomy need to be updated? I'm not familiar with Drosera infrageneric taxonomy, but I don't see a subg. Bryastrum on the list as it stands. Further, I just wanted to relate what I did in my edit today, using this source. Barry Rice explains it nicely here: Drosera ericksoniae is synonymous with Drosera omissa, an older name; Drosera nitidula subsp./var. allantostigmais was elevated to Drosera allantostigma; Drosera nitidula subsp./var. leucostigma was elevated to Drosera leucostigma; Drosera nitidula subsp. omissa was elevated to species status but since D. omissa is already a named species, this has become Drosera patens. Mightily confusing indeed, so I just wanted to post that here for clarification. Cheers, Rkitko (talk) 22:27, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

There are currently two lists of Drosera species stemming from the Drosera page, which should be merged. See also the Drosera talk page re appropriate nomenclature --Michael Goodyear (talk) 15:28, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I wholly disagree with the merge and also with the current move. The way I view the page it could be expanded to a proper taxonomy article and maintain the classification list. As I always intended, this page should be about the taxonomy and classification of the genus and really should discuss other arrangements and details of the taxonomy. That's why I'm moving it back (again) to the original title. Rkitko (talk) 03:02, 13 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well that way it is the only list in the system with the name Taxonomy. I am just unclear why we need two lists of Drosera species, which is very unusual. --Michael Goodyear (talk) 16:55, 13 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't fundamentally see this article as a list article. As with many things, it is a work-in-progress and the intention was for it to become a taxonomy article. But to your point directly, there are plenty of examples where list articles present the same items in a different order. There's
List of U.S. states by population growth rate, and List of U.S. states and territories by birth and death rates, and..... Here we have an alphabetical (and sortable) List of Drosera species and also a list within the taxonomy article. Taxonomy of Banksia contains a list for one arrangement of the genus and I was hoping to some day have the time to expand this article to mirror that one. Drosera magnifica

I noticed that the new species Drosera magnifica is missing from this page. Would anyone know what subgenus this plant fits under so it can be added? Stormchaser89 (talk) 12:44, 13 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
