Shouldn't

Shouldn't there be a mention about "The Great Big Sled" somewhere in the article, rather than just listing it in the singles too? I'd stick it somewhere, but can't find an appropriate place. shamarnica 19:28, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Flowers was a bellhop, for a while, at the Gold Coast Hotel, even though he had dropped out of college; David Keuning, who was originally from Pella, Iowa but moved to Las Vegas in January of 2000, worked at a Banana Republic store—even though he dropped out of Kirkwood Community College and then the University of Iowa;

I'm not sure I understand. Do you need a college education to be a bellhop or to work at Banana Republic? RickK 08:11, Feb 6, 2005 (UTC)

Influences

I find it strange noone has commented on Brandon's uncanny likeness to Former "The Cars" front man Rick Ocasek's voice on Sams Town and future albumns. Songs like "read my mind" and "Shoot me Santa" really showcase this likeness. I'm curious as to any facts out there that may link his likeness to Ocasek as tribute or influence. If so, I'd say that should be included in the article. His likeness to Ocasek is one of the main reasons I've grown to love the band. They were good in the Mr. Brightside days, but now they've grown into an entirely new category in my book.

What about
Frank Black? Songs like "The Ballad of Michael Valentine" could be by Mr. Black himself —Preceding unsigned comment added by VTNC (talkcontribs

I removed the following edits:

"Their band had a gig at a gay Las Vegas drag queen club."
"Brandon Flowers is a
bisexual
."

I can find no facts to back up these claims, so I removed them. If you can find some proof then please state it and put the comments back into the article. --Clawed 10:52, 12 May 2005 (UTC)

Taken care of. Apollomelos 19:34, 12 May 2005 (UTC)

I've removed this again: *Brandon Flowers is a

bisexual
.

Brandon has stated repeatedly that he's not gay, or bisexual. He is in fact engaged to be married. There is absolutely no proof that he is anything but what he says he is, so I don't know why this comment keeps reappearing.

He is bisexual and, yes, he is engaged to get married to a girl.

no he is now married

"Andy, You’re A Star" describes Flowers’ crush on a male athlete in high school.
"In a car with a girl, promise me she's not your world/Cause Andy, you're a star/ Leave your number on the locker and I'll give you a call"
"Somebody Told Me" refers to another although not neccesarily his homosexual relationship that was also transgender reflecting a transgender club they use to play at.
"Well somebody told me/You had a boyfriend/Who looks like a girlfriend/"

Here is one source: [1]

His crush on a male athlete alone qualifies him for the bisexual list. Jamocha345 19:34, 21 May 2005 (UTC)

Firstly, I read the linked article, and it concludes Flowers is straight, but some of his sexually ambiguous lyrics have attracted a gay following. That is what this article should say. Secondly, lyrics do not constitute evidence regarding the lyricist's personal life - Did Johnny Cash shoot a man in Reno? Is Bowie an alien who came to earth to teach us about music? (Well, probably, but you get my point) RMoloney 02:08, 22 May 2005 (UTC)

You have one boycrush and you're bisexual? I think not. Brandon is not bisexual. Hate to disappoint you, but he's not. Thanks RMoloney for bringing that up -- nice points.

yes, good job RMoloney. I am so sick of seeing that same line pop up and then out again. If we went by what the lyrics were saying, someone should be calling the police based on Midnight Show alone...

I think the bottom line is that those two songs prove these people's points about as well as Midnight Show and On Top prove that Flowers is a womanizer. The fact that he has written these lyrics (refering to Andy and STM) should be noted, because though we as Wikipedia do not have the right to accuse him of anything without proof we do have the duty to give people the facts. The lyrics may convice some people that he is bisexual, and we shouldn't try to hide the lyrics from then. Lyrics are worth noting, not accusations. Vjasper 04:07, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Tramps

The part about the gay club is true. I am a las vegas resident/native and they used to play at a place called tramps which is in the area of las vegas called the "fruit loop".Vegasjon

  • Yes, I'm sure it's true, but no doubt they gigged at a lot of different clubs. And lots of other bands gig at gay/drag clubs. It's not an important fact in itself. It has no bearing on either the band's music, or the sexuality of any band members. RMoloney 00:49, 7 September 2005 (UTC)

RMoloney, that is where they first started at. And they played there regularly. You have no right to delete that information. See the Genre link. 71.32.199.15 00:54, 7 September 2005 (UTC)
If it was where they had their first gig, then it certainly is notable. Could you provide a link for where you found this information? The Genre interview doesn't mention this. Thanks RMoloney 01:13, 7 September 2005 (UTC)
Perhaps I should clarify: I don't consider the phrasing "started out at" sufficiently precise to identify it as their very first gig. RMoloney 01:34, 7 September 2005 (UTC)

[2] The Genre link does. In the interview they asked you guys started out at Tramps and they said yes. 71.32.199.15 02:19, 7 September 2005 (UTC)

Note the phrase used in the magazine is "started out". They did not play anywhere else to my knowledge. 71.32.199.15 02:20, 7 September 2005 (UTC)

They played at various places, including the Icehouse, the Joint, and a coffee house (now closed) that a friend of theirs owned. They did not just play at Tramps. It was just one of the many places they played.

Photos

I dug up some nice press photos. Don't need them all, and the street photo is probably a better one for the main pic. It's up to somebody else! If somebody can also correctly label the guys in the summary of the cowboy pic, that would be nice. -- Foofy 10:39, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

Multiple Versions of "Somebody Told Me"

i'm pretty sure that the version of "somebody told me" i hear on the radio in the new york city area is different from that of the album, and also unavailable on the U.S. single. does anyone have any information regarding this matter? Streamless 21:31, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, that's really common. There's an interview with Jake Slichter, formerly of Semisonic here (which no longer plays on my quicktime for some reason, but you might have better luck) in which he explains all about this. Essentially, the producers will make several mixes of a given single, emphasising, or de-emphasising, certain elements, like guitar, drums, keyboards, etc., and each mix is designed to appeal to a certain audience (rock, alternative, adult contemporary, etc.)

thanks much for the explanation, RMoloney. if any Killers fans out there know where i can get a copy of the mix (almost sounded like techno) of "Somebody Told Me" that was heavily rotated on New York City area Top 40 stations in early/mid 2005, i'd appreciate it. Streamless 18:52, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
on a single cd for "Mr. Brightside" there is a "Somebody Told Me(Insider Remix)" that is very techno sounding

I don't get it

"The band took their name from a New Order video titled "Crystal"".

It's not quite clear to me how a video titled Crystal gave the name "The Killers" :) (I guess there's something related in the video but what?)

It's mentioned in their bio on MTV. The video had a fake band playing that was called "The Killers." Somebody could probably clarify that, I agree it's kind of confusing. Foofy 00:26, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

I can clear it up... From what I remember reading, the band in the music video was named "the killers", and they were supposedly the best band on earth (in the video). So that's where they got their name. -Rob

Actually, the only reference to the name was on the drumset of said band. Damn good choice though eh? Vegasrebel29 12:50, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
The fictitious band 'The Killers' also appears on the drumkit of the 1988 video 'Touched by the Hand of God'. I'm not sure if it's been mentioned anywhere but the set for 'Somebody told me' is a recreation of the set used in the 'Crystal' video clip. --220.233.214.25 13:56, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Questions

Firstly, why are there two versions of the music videos of Mr. Brightside and All These Things That I've Done, and secondly, I remember reading somewhere that Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine was based on a British murder case, but I don't know which. Could anyone clear up either point, please. smurrayinchester(User), (Ho Ho Ho!) 17:07, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

My mistake; it was 'Where is she?' The story about it is here: "Mr Contrite-side". smurrayinchester(User), (Ho Ho Ho!) 16:14, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

There was a video for Mr B. and ATTTID made for the British market and a video made for the American market. The English Mr B. features them playing the song in black and white, while the American one is a take on Moulin Rouge, with the girl with big hair and white make up and eric roberts eating apples etc etc. The English ATTTID features them walking down a street (Brick Lane in East London)towards a gig and on the way hundreds of fans (including a gospel choir) join them. The American ATTTID is rather more experimental - again being filmed in Black and white with a western theme featuring 'Killer sluts' and people licking boomerangs in a suggestive manner. It was directed by Anton Corbijn. The american one's have considerably bigger budgets, having been made later on in the band's rise to fame and being funded by major studio Island Records, while the british videos were filmed a lot earlier on in the band's success and were backed by indie label Lizard King Records.

As for jenny youre part right - jenny + midnight show + an as yet unreleased song make up part of a fictional murder trilogy. Where is she is indeed based on the murder of Jodi Jones. Mu.

I believe it's jenny + midnight show + leave the bourbon on the shelf.Vjasper 19:53, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

I might be missing something, but how is Midnight Show part of it? I havn't listened to the song a lot, but it doesn't sound like it has anything to do with Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine. EDIT: Nevermind, I've listened to it quite a bit, and you guys were correct. Vjasper 04:01, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Why isnt Hot Fuss under Discography?

Where's the source for this information: "After seeing footage for director Richard Kelly's upcoming film Southland Tales, the band agreed to allow Kelly to use one of their songs for the movie's soundtrack." I have seen nothing official come from the band on this.

The is no song called "where is she" at all by eny name.. Its Jenny was a friend of mine. Dont know where that name came from. YOu should check that. Not changing it. i wish someone ellse would agree with me first (70.244.249.227 02:15, 11 May 2006 (UTC))

There absolutely is a song called "Where is she". It's totally different from "Jenny was a friend of mine", too. The version I have is the "Live at Birmingham Academy 24-01-05" one; you'll find it floating 'round on the net (hint: hype machine)... 82.32.65.149 22:02, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

"Where is She" is a real song. It was originally called "Soft Surrender" on early dates of the NME Awards tour in Spring 05, but then was renamed "Where is She". It caused considerable controversy in the UK because it was based on a famous murder case in Scotland.

Andrew Thomas

If you turn the album cover to the right 45 degrees, the smiling face of Andrew Thomas from Barry, the winner of a competition to be included in the cover, can be seen.

I deleted this, since there certainly doesn't appear to be any face on the album cover. Also, a Google search reveals nothing but this WP article.

What kind of garbage is this?

"On May 15 2006 Brandon Flowers filed for divorce just ten months after he wed Tana Munblowsky. It is widely believed that adultery is the reason cited for the divorce although this is yet to be confirmed."

That is absolutely untrue. Why is it that everytime I read this article there's more bullshit and gossip on here?

Who the hell knows. Nothing turns up on Google, so I'm going to remove it. Technically, it's okay to remove anything that doesn't cite a reference, so feel free to do so next time you see something out of place. --Foofy 23:34, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Maybe because I know the couple in question? That's how I know. This garbage shows up time and time again, added by 14-year-olds who believe saying it will make it come true. I'm just tired of seeing it.

All the other band members have their own pages, but Vannucci just redirects to the main Killers page... anyone want to start a page for him? - Einmonim 03:01, 29 June 2006 (UTC) Brandon has to be a nice guy.

Brandon has to be a nice guy? Since when did having Dior jackets, a huge ego, and enough shittalk on other bands to warrant a death wish make one a nice guy? I hate him with a passion, but even if you like their music, get it through your heads that Flowers is unarguably an asshole.

Quotations

Are they needed? They take a huge amount of space, and don't say anything especially important. --Joewithajay 17:42, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

we might consider transorting them to a wikiquote page. I'll tag it for now.--Esprit15d 18:22, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Ok, I've moved the quotes to wikiquote (on the page The Killers), although I do notice that there's already a page of quote from Brandon Flowers there. Also, the formatting's a bit of a mess - someone with more experience with wikiquote might want to have a look. Cheers. Willnz0 08:57, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism?

The band is comprised of Liam Nadin (vocals, synthesizer), Anthony Saverton (guitar, vocals), Nathanial Lordan (bass, vocals), and Jed De La Mare(drums, percussion).

Is there something I've missed, or has some vandalism occured? Either way, I'm editing it to say:

"The band is comprised of Brandon Flowers (vocals, synthesizer), Dave Keuning (guitar, vocals), Mark Stoermer (bass, vocals), and Ronnie Vannucci Jr. (drums, percussion)."

While this entry may be redundant, take it as an archive entry in case I've made a boo-boo.

Cheers. Ercoledi 10:39, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Rumors allowed in Trivia?

I'm kind of new, but I don't think that rumors about being included in the next bond movie, which I'm sure doesn't even have a working title let alone a band for the theme song, should be included in trivia. It fails to qualify as trivia in my opinion. if it's been reported, can I get a link? I'm deleting it for now, slap my hand if I'm hasty in doing so great Wikipedia veterans... The brand new video for “Read My Mind” will premiere on MTV on February 8th. To find out where and when to watch, visit thekillersmusic.com
There are also a few “Read My Mind” shorts based on the video that have already begun airing on MTV. Keep watching MTV to see them or you can check them out on Youtube now

There will also be an EP featuring an acoustic version of the new single as well as two remixes available only at iTunes on February 13th.

'Alternative'

Who decided they were alternative? They're incredibly mainstream. Jbeckwith

While they have become fairly mainstream that doesn't change the genre of the music. For example Depeche Mode started off Alternative and even though they were popular in the 80's they remained alternative.

I don't see them as alternative, either. Their music doesn't sound like it. It's like saying everything post-80s is alternative. - Cyborg Ninja 14:51, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

I agree with Cyborg Ninja, they might be mainstream but they do play a genre and it basically is Post-punk revival, you can check The Killer's profile on All Music Guide. They also fulfill some of the basic funk, spiky guitar post-punk sound mixed with dub and new wave (characteristic of the above genre). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.25.102.87 (talk) 01:08, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

'Indie Rock'
